Our Featured Initiatives
We at NPreMA are community focused. Through our own charity initiatives, we strive to lend resources or a helping hand to whoever may need it through events or fundraisers, and our members nationwide are no different. Below are charity initiatives founded and run by other pre-medical students across the country. These organizations need our support, both financially and volunteer-wise, and we are proud to feature them on our charity initiative page.
Bright Steps Mentorship
Connecting with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be extremely challenging. Bright Steps Mentorship (BSM) is a program that seeks to meet the unique needs of students with autism through meaningful connections between volunteer tutors and autistic children.
Focusing on evidence-based teaching strategies to help prepare preschool children for success in a traditional school setting, BSM pairs volunteers and children with ASD, volunteer training, and provides ASD resources for families.
Lifelines
The mission of Lifelines is to utilize art to provide a healing and expressive outlet to individuals, healthcare professionals, patients, their families, and caregivers. Lifelines connects unique individuals and communities to celebrate the diverse narratives of the human experience, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment for all, especially in vulnerable times.
Teds for Beds
In the midst of sterile hospital rooms and the monotony of medical procedures, our volunteers bring a ray of sunshine and joy to the young patients they encounter. Through their dedication and kindness, they are able to uplift the spirits of children who are going through challenging times. Our volunteers fundraise and donate giant teddy bears that bring comfort and warmth to pediatric patients. Seeing the joy on these children's faces as they cuddle with their new furry friend is a priceless moment that our volunteers cherish. With every bear donated, our volunteers bring a little bit of happiness into the lives of those who need it most.
The Language of Color
Help children with autism spectrum disorder through the wonderful world of art.
In a world that often overlooks those who are different, we believe that every child deserves to have their voice heard. That's why our volunteer premed students have joined forces with children on the autism spectrum, using the power of art to help them express themselves in ways they never thought possible. With paintbrushes in hand and hearts full of compassion, we've created a safe and nurturing space where these incredible children can let their creativity soar. From the Tri-State area and beyond, we've welcomed every child with open arms, and watched in awe as they've transformed blank canvases into stunning masterpieces. Together, we're proving that with a little bit of love and a lot of color, anything is possible.
NPREMA COVID-19 Response
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, our volunteers went above and beyond to help their communities. They quickly adapted and created new initiatives to meet the changing needs of the times. From tutoring students struggling with virtual learning to educating the public about vaccines, our volunteers were there every step of the way. They organized fundraisers and donated much-needed gear and special masks to schools as they began to reopen. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, our volunteers made a positive impact on their communities during a difficult time.
Ukrainian Support Project by University Students
Our mission is to to connect with students in New York to organize humanitarian aid item drives within our communities, which we then deliver to local Ukrainian shipping services (Nova Poshta and Meest) transporting donations directly to the beneficiary banks within Kyiv and Lviv.
